Kinja'd!!!2 Kinja'd!!! 10

I thought it was a little rushed and a bit thin, but man was I glad to see these two back. I was never really interested in the alien conspiracy story line, so I wasn’t expecting much from this episode. Joel McHale seemed a little weird to me. Maybe I’m just too used to him in sarcastic comedic roles.

Also, one minor niggle. One thing I’ve always loved about the original series was the in-episode score. I’m no orchestra expert, but it seemed like they used a lot of oboe. Missed that last night.

Regardless, I’m happy that it’s back and I’m really looking forward to the MoW episodes.

I didn’t watch it, but I heard it was bad.

“Joel McHale seemed a little weird to me. Maybe I’m just too used to him in sarcastic comedic roles.”

Yeah, I felt the exact same thing.

I also noticed what you mentioned in connection with the score. It didn’t quite deliver the atmosphere of the 90s series, but that is largely due to HD, while I got used to the poorer image quality from 20+ years ago.

The major problem I had was how straightforward it was. I mean, we get to see clear pictures of the alien, the spacecraft, the alien tech ship right in the pilot episode. So I felt it lacked the mysteriousness of the original series (the first couple of seasons at least).

But all in all, I found it enjoyable, and will definitely stick around. It bought back a lot of good memories. I hope we’ll also have some monster-of-the-week action.

The reviews I read ahead of time weren’t favorable for this episode, so I think I had reasonable expectations going in.

Honestly it felt a little like Duchovny and Anderson were a little rusty trying to play Mulder and Scully. I’m optimistic for the remaining ones.

From what I’ve read, episodes 1 and 6 are alien conspiracy stuff, while 2-5 are MoW-style.

I didn’t see it. My family and I were all in for a long time with the old series and the movies, too. But, we never really got to the answer. The big story arc that dominated the entire series never felt like it came to resolution, and the truth was always just out of reach. The characters continued to be great, and the stories well-written, but I just got weary of the whole thing and gave up.

Now, with this new series, I’m not sure I want to get into something that may again be unsatisfying in the long run. Kind of like a relationship you have to leave once you realize it’s not leading anywhere, I’ve moved on.

I didn’t think it was bad....but it wasn’t all that great. I do plan on watching the entire 6 part run. Just to see how it goes.

I liked it, its nice to see them again. But really, I was never a fan of the conspiracy stuff anyways. My favorites were the “Monster of the week” episodes. I cant wait for those!

It was a lot of set up and introduction, without much action - which, I guess, is to be expected 8 years after the last installment and 14 years after this particular storyline was last visited.

Still, I’m not sure how I feel about handwaving away the 2012 colonization date by just saying that the whole alien conspiracy was a fake to cover up the government’s real conspiracy (they actually already did that in the show once, and the “alien conspiracy is a red herring” thing turned out to be a cover, but now it turns out it was right?).

Also, I like the character and William B. Davis is a great actor, but CGB Spender really should be dead at this point - we saw him incinerated and his flesh burned totally off his skeleton. I don’t get how you can come back from that one.

I liked it a lot, but it did seem a bit hurried. Like they’re trying to wrap up a normal season’s worth of episodes in just 6.
